Coaches NeededAny coach, in good standing, holding a National D license or above and interested in coaching a 2008 District II ODP team, should send their resumé to Jack Salvemini, ODP Coordinator, 3635 Jackson Oaks Ct., Morgan Hill, CA 95037 or e-mail me here. Tryouts are in May. Practices will begin at your discretion, leading to the ODP Playdays in the fall. Your assistance is needed to help in this important first step in the ODP process which ultimately identifies the talented young players who will go on to play at the State or Regional ODP levels, or on U.S. Soccer youth or full national teams. Thanks.

Parents and PlayersSoccer legend Anson Dorrance, head coach at the University of North Carolina and former US national team coach, has written a short article discussing his views on the role "politics" plays in the tryout process. The article relates in an interesting way to the difficulty of making ODP selections, and the challenge this poses for players. This is valuable reading for both ODP hopefuls and their parents. Download the article.

2008 State ODP Tryout InvitationsFor the second year in a row, District II has had 86 boys and girls invited to State ODP Tryouts (Invite List) in addition to those who received automatic invitations because they made one of last year's State ODP pools. This is a very large number of invitees, and is a tribute not only to the hard work of the players, but also to the efforts of the many volunteer coaches who worked with District II ODP teams in the 1992 1995 age groups. Thanks again to all our coaches and evaluators, and congratulations to the players. Good luck at the tryouts!

Cal-North State ODP
Congratulations to the many District II players who made Cal-North State ODP pools for 2008. Lists of 2008 State ODP players are posted on the CYSA-N web site. Again, thanks to all of our highly qualified and dedicated ODP coaches for their hard work!

District
II Olympic Development Program (ODP)
ODP, which is open for tryout to all players, provides the ultimate experience and training for the players selected. District II's ODP players compete against players from other districts within CYSA, ultimately leading to the selection of state and regional ODP participants, and national team invitees. Each year several players from all over CYSA (including many District II players) are selected for national boys and girls teams. District II ODP tryouts are held in the spring of each year, while the state tryouts are held in December for the following year's State ODP pools. Regional ODP camps are generally held in late June or July. This program opens numerous opportunities for our youth players.
