District II Risk Management

The District II Risk Management page is designed to help league and club administrators, coaches, and team managers maintain a safe environment for soccer. The risk of injury in any sport is always present. Parents know this when they sign up their kids to play soccer. However, sometimes parents will look to blame others for accidents—uncontrollable events or actions that may harm their kids. This page offers suggestions for ways to keep injuries or exposures to other risks to a minimum, protecting the kids and potentially reducing your risk of liability. More information on risk management is available on the CYSA-N web site.

It is important to note that in no way is this information intended to provide professional legal advice regarding risk management. We strongly suggest that you consult an attorney for legal advice or information regarding any matters related to risk in your league or club.

Goal Safety

Goals can tip over for a number of reasons. The most common causes are having kids climb on a goal or hang from the crossbar. But goals can also be blown over by a gust of wind, or knocked down during an organized practice or game.

A properly anchored portable goal is much less likely to tip over. It is imperative that leagues and clubs remind every team that all movable goals be anchored properly during all practices and games. The number and type of anchors will depend on a variety of factors, such as soil type, moisture, and the weight of the goal. See the PDF on the CYSA-N web site or team manual for more information on goal safety.
